Best places to eat in Morzine area

There is a great variety of restaurants and bars in Morzine area but here is our list of the best places to eat…

Morzine - 6th July 2016

Above the town (on the slopes)…
Changabanga cafe
Best place for a coffee whilst getting your board or skis fixed as we found out on our back-country adventures in Morzine-Avoriaz.  Really friendly staff, great place for a snack.

Chez Nannon
We think the best places to eat in Morzine; a cosy mountain retreat ambience with amazing traditional, local food. Chez Nannon is just above Nyon plateau.  Sausages, steaks & ham cooked on an open fire or our favourite Pommes de terre avec Reblochon…need we say more, certainly the best place to eat in Nyon area in our opinion.

La Ferme Linderets
Great traditional dishes in an old farmhouse off the blue run back to Ardent from Linderet bowl.  Never too busy like others in the bowl above, lovely atmosphere and food so the best place to head to for lunch in Morzine area if you’re on the mountain in Ardent area.

La Folie des Neiges, Plaine Dranse
Best place and perhaps the only place on the mountain to eat suckling pig, a carafe of local red or even chilled Champagne in the sunshine!

Grand Ourse, Les Gets
The highest place to eat in Portes du Soleil apparently, we ate there after a great morning at peaceful Mont Chery, quite busy so plan a long lunch but nice place.   Their roasts on Sunday our popular.

apres ski mountain cafeLa Grenouille du Marais
A traditional style mountain restaurant a great place to stop if walking or skiing down from Super Morzine and one of the best places for hot chocolate as well as local dishes with a great view too.

Happy Hours
If you’re looking for a snack or a place with good aprés atmosphere whilst in Ardent then Happy Hours is the best place to head to.  Located right next to the Ardent gondola

Les Mine D’Ors, Vallee de La Manche
Hidden quite far down the valley and a great place to eat if you have found the fantastic back-country run down vallee de la Manche as the restaurant is next to the bus stop back to the lifts.

Le Passe de Montagne
Of several cafés and restaurants in the bowl above Ardent, La Passe de Montagne is one of the best places for a quick lunch or beer on the mountain in Morzine area.  Self-service and can get very busy.

In town (below/after the slopes)…
Bec Jaune
The best place in Morzine for locally brewed ale, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and an informal and interesting menu to match.  The IPA is always our favourite no matter what the week’s brew brings and the burgers are always good.

Bout de Lac
Kept busy all year round by locals as well as visitors to the Lac de Montriond.  Well travelled foodie friends said that the menu du jour, of local charcuterie, local trout followed by local cheeses and then Myrtille tart, was the best they had ever had!

La Chaudanne
The best place in Morzine for a sophisticated pre-dinner glass of wine in their intimate wine cellar bar.  They have a vast choice of wines and a great menu for dinner in the restaurant upstairs.  Our favourite, when we have friends to share it with is the Cote de boeuf.

Chez Etienne
The best place in Morzine area to find white work vans at lunch time which we think is always a sign of a great place to eat.  Their menu du jour is always something local and different, rustic and always tasty.  They do a great version of local favourite Tartiflette and Adam thinks their, skiers favourite, spaghetti Bolognese is hard to beat.

Le Clin d’Oeil
This cosy restaurant at the bottom of Morzine town near the market sqare is definitely set up for tourists with prices to match but it is the place where we found the best confit du canard.  Good versions of the local traditional dishes too such as fondue.

La Ferme de la Fruiterie
Connected to the Fromagerie on Route de la Plagne by the cellar in which they make and age their cheeses, this is definitely the best place in Morzine area for local cheese and meat dishes.  The menu is a little expensive but worth it for great tasting dishes from very local produce.

La Grange
The best place in Morzine area for Racelette as well as other local specialities such as Tartiflette and Reblochonnade all served with amazing potatoes that we just can’t find elsewhere.

La Pointe de Nyon
Definitely one of the best places in Morzine area for those with a sweet tooth!  Their home-made Myrtilles tart made a wonderful breakfast after an early start to find fresh tracks on my birthday and their Cafe Gormand are extremely tempting.

La Rotonde
One of the best places for steak tartare in morzine are and they normally serve a good plat du jour too.  The interior is a little soul-less but the food makes up for it.

Morzine - 7th July 2016

Only open during the day but we think the best place to eat if you are at the mairie/church side of Morzine. In the summer it’s great to sit out by the river after a long walk and survey the motorbikes and tuck into a tasty Savoyard steak haché baguette.

Le Tyrolien
Always busy and rightly so.  One of the best places for pizza in town (others are mainly take away or not authentic thin bases), they also serve many of the Haute Savoie specialities and a great steak tartare too.

Vents des Anges
Tucked in a corner of Place de L’Eglise in Morzine, across the square from Tyrolia; this tiny restaurant run my a husband and wife team is the best place to eat wonderful food away from the crowds.  A hidden gem, possibly the alphabetical ordering saved best for last.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, there are many other places to eat in the Morzine area and these are simply the best in our opinion.  Do comment below if you would recommend others.
